After studying for the Security+ exam off and on for about six months, I decided to focus on it seriously for three weeks. Eventually I passed, and I probably could have done it sooner if I had concentrated earlier. Inconsistent studying won’t lead to results. Keep that in mind if you’re preparing for any certification.
Exam Tips
Your reading comprehension will greatly influence your score. A lot of the questions are worded in a confusing or overly broad way. Understanding the question is just as important as knowing the material. My tip for tricky questions is to flag them and come back later. You don’t have to wait until the end of the exam. Just giving yourself a short break from the question can help you see it differently.
For the labs, I’d recommend doing them last. That way you give yourself time to work through the rest of the exam without feeling rushed, and you can tackle the labs more thoughtfully at the end. When I did this I had time to go back and make a few last-minute adjustments.
Security+ is more focused on security theory than practical labs, so you won’t need extensive hands-on prep beyond basic command line familiarity.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!
